Many students learn totally different. For instance me, I learn much better through visual and hands on. I've had a lot of teachers who use no technology what so ever in their classroom and it is just straight out of the book which I have a harder time learning that way. I don't like just reading out of a book to get knowledge. I like to see visuals and key points of what I am trying to understand.
In my opinion I think younger kids should start out using tablets in grade school. Young kids want a tablet so if they can have a tablet while going to school and use it while in school they will have a much enjoyable time learning. On tablets they have visuals you ca learn from they have the books on the tablet. I think it will be expensive but if kids will come to school and have fun while learning why not? Although I do know not every school district could even afford to think about doing this for example teachers in Oklahoma are having to take a pay cuts. It is not looking for good for teachers and students in Oklahoma at the moment.
I do think if school districts can afford spending more money for new technology i think it will be very beneficial in the long run for the teachers, students and parents.
In the TPACK I learned how the foundation or framework is set for teachers to learn the three areas to help them be well rounded. Many students do learn at different pace so having multiple tools can help students succeed. I agree with students starting at a young age by using technology and learning. This will only help them in the future as technology will become more common and used and they will already know what to expect.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I find it much harder to learn when the teacher just teaches right tout of the book and hands out the homework. I need to be able to see things and work things out for myself. By using technology teachers can better help us understand the subject area so we're not all confused in the end.
ReplyDeleteI see the TPACK as a great tool to have. I agree with you that students all learn differently and as teachers it is our job to figure out which ways benefit the class as a whole. I personally dislike class that every lecture is the same. For me where there is no variation in teaching methods I tend to get bored and lose focus. The TPACK in my opinion is way to keep things fresh and keep your students engaged.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the expense problem that is there when trying to integrate technology into the classroom. It can be very helpful to both the students and teacher, but it is not always available for each school. I think if technology is unavailable the teacher should still use kinesthetic activities using other available materials such as building blocks.
ReplyDeleteI really like your content in the TPACK post. I have had experience with the ipad incorporated into my classroom and been a part of elementary students using ipad's also. The way I have seen the Ipad used for lower grades is with games. The children spend an thirty minutes to an hour playing an educational game with spelling, math, science, etc, and it really helps to make them want to learn. I am a complete fan of tablets in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, in that many student learn differently whether it is visual, or hands on. A teacher must know how to adjust their own teaching skills to be able to help kids who might be slower or faster at learning.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think if schools can afford it they should definitely use technology. It's very important for students to be proficient in technology.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if any students can learn straight out of textbooks anymore. I totally agree with using the modern technology like tablets to intrigue the students more. If we can't reach our students in the ways they learn best, then they won't get the most they can out of our classes.
ReplyDeleteTeaching is a complex ill-structured task for educators. Technology can enhance many student's learning process, but it is necessary for the teacher to know which students benefit the most from this experience. Yes, I agree that schools can benefit using technology, yet technology is not the key for student's academic success, the teacher is.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was difficult to grasp at first as well. After reading through it, it finally made a little more sense. I also agree with you in which you learn better hands on.
ReplyDeleteThe technology in classrooms is great for students that not only learn different, but for the students that have different learning disabilities. It can help them grasp the content without them losing focus as easily.
ReplyDeleteYour reflection makes me think of the blogger use in the classroom!Recently, blogs begun to emerge as a useful type of educational technology. The literature discusses a number of interesting possibilities for the use of blogs. For example, it is suggested that students can use blogs to publish their own writings, discuss group assignments, peer review each other’s work, collaborate on projects and manage their digital portfolios.
ReplyDeleteOverall, from my perspective as a teacher, I believe that the blogs added a new dimension to my teaching effectiveness by enabling me to do things that were not possible otherwise, either with or without other technology. Initially, I saw blogging as a means by which I could provide my reflections to address emerging issues relevant to students’ learning. Blog technology allows students as readers of my reflections to post their comments. Blog can also be used as a resource distribution medium. I understood that it is appropriate for students to also maintain their own blogs, where they could reflect upon learning that took place in class sessions, present their work and express ideas and concerns. Once I began reading and reviewing students’ blogs, it became obvious that this activity is time-consuming due to having to follow up all blogs individually and to keep track of new posts and comments soon after they had been added…But, I still love doing it!!
Unfortunately, the cost of all the technology in the classroom is a huge factor affecting many schools today. I think that, with our society's huge emphasis on technology, we must integrate this in the classroom as much as possible to engage students, but it is sad that not all schools are able to do so, and that educators receive pay cuts to allow technology to be integrated.
